A Good Sofa Sleeper for Kids?
The company Fun Furnishings has put out a great little something that they call just simply the Sofa Sleeper. It is a big maroon pared-down version of the classic sleeper sofa. The first time I saw it, I thought, “That would make a great hideout for kids to sit in, lie in, sleep in, and watch TV in.” It looks very comfy, like it could just swallow the children up for hours or nights on end. I’m sure they would love it. It would go great in your basement or whatever room has been relegated to being taken over by the little ones.

Best of all, this sleeper sofa can be had for only about $200. It really doesn’t get any lower than that, and this in turn makes one worry a little, of course. Why is it such a low price? Well, basically because it’s no high-quality piece of furniture like we have reviewed elsewhere. This is really something that you wouldn’t mind getting apple juice spilled on – on the first day you brought it home. There is a place for such a thing, I think.
Fun Furnishings actually only recommends this product for children who are seven and under, which I find a bit strange. Maybe it is smaller than it looks. It’s made out of a poly-cotton blend fabric and has a fire-resistant foam in it. It only holds up to a 100 pounds maximum. Okay, so that’s why you shouldn’t let the bigger kids, let alone the adults, onto it.
When the mattress folds out of this sleeper sofa, it is lying directly on the ground. That is what made me think of kids immediately. Adults usually like to sleep off the ground to some degree. Children like to be down on the ground. It’s the type of furniture you can just throw in the corner of your basement, and all your kids will pass through it and love it, and probably eventually grow out of it. And I’m sure they will tear it to pieces by the time they’re “little adults”, but I have a feeling this is a great product for them in the meantime.
As we are continuously pointing out here, the world of sleeper sofas is a very wide world indeed. It has come to cater to the high-brow and the low-brow; the tall and the small; and the rich and the not-quite-rich.
